Lab Week 3

I. Pronunciation Practice:

1) [eI] (late) vs. [E](let) practice & quiz

2) a) [E] (said) vs. [ae] (sad) practice & quiz
b) [E] vs. [ae] - (See Unit 8)

3) [eI] (made) vs. [ae](mad) practice & quiz

4) [a] (hot) vs. [ae] (hat) practice & quiz

5) E/a/ae, etc. (Unit 12)

II. Video clips:

1) a) With a partner, choose a video clip from this trailers & clips website to watch.

b) The first time, listen for words that contain any of the following vowel sounds we've studied: [i], [I], [eI], [E], [ae], and [a]. Share your findings with your partner. The second time you listen, please listen for the main ideas. With your partner, discuss what the video clip was about as well as your reactions.

c) Repeat steps a) & b) with a different video clip.

III. VOA TV

1) Watch the TV program of "Refugee Doctor 'Making a Difference' for Thousands in Burma". After the first time you watch the video, discuss the main ideas with your partner.

2) Watch it again. Listen for words that contain any of the following vowel sounds we've studied: [i], [I], [eI], [E], [ae], and [a]. Share your findings with your partner.

3) Discuss with a partner: What people have made a difference in your life, your country, or the world...?
